The job of Data Analyst (M/F)

The Data Analyst's mission is to exploit and interpret the data to derive useful business observations. Thus, the reports provided help guide management decisions and improve performance and marketing strategies.

Missions:

Also known as data analyst, the data analyst is a profession born of Big Data.
Attached to the information systems department of a company, he is responsible for all database operations.

Thanks to the rise of social networks, e-commerce and the Internet of Things, the data analyst is in charge of exploiting the information collected through these different channels. More concretely, he/she must know how to master a large number of tools and statistical techniques (Microsoft, SQL, google analytics, google AdWords, table...).

Unlike a data miner, a data analyst is in charge of a larger volume of data to process. With experience, he or she can evolve to the position of a top-level data scientist, who explores and examines data from multiple dispersed sources at a higher level.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the daily activities of a data analyst:

  • Collect, process and study statistical data to produce business analyses and recommendations,
  • Build and evolve Business Intelligence (BI) & Web Analytics reports to allow the different teams to have a coherent vision of the products' activity results and their technical functioning,
  • Manage analysis tools allowing internal decision makers or customers to follow the evolution of their sites or products,
  • Ensure the proper interpretation and dissemination of analytical reports resulting from BI & Web Analytics.

Technical skills

  • A data analyst must be able to collect, gather, visualize and analyze information in detail. He/she must also have strong computational skills and a good visual perception of information (graphs, charts, tables etc.).
  • He/she must be familiar with many tools and software (statistical language, Spark, Javascript etc.)
  • Finally, as a data analyst, you need to be a team player. You must be able to communicate effectively with your managers and teammates to present and explain data.
